Local 355 Joint Apprenticeship Training Fund (JATF)
The Joint Apprenticeship Training Fund (JATF) was created by the United Service Workers Union, IUJAT, to fill a need within the mechanical trades for trained professionals and to provide workers within those trades with vital training they need to succeed. Because the USWU understands the needs and challenges of the American worker in a modern economy, it set out to create a state-of-the-art apprenticeship program in which the next generation of tradesmen and -women could learn their skills from the best in the industry. The Joint Apprenticeship Training Fund (JATF) and Joint Apprenticeship Training Center (JATC) were established for this purpose.
The JATF program has grown and has obtained five (5) New York State approved Apprentice programs: Steamfitter, Pipe fitter, Fire Sprinkler, Plumber, and Sheet Metal Worker. USWU Local 355 JATF graduated its first class in 2009 and continues to educate its workforce and graduate new apprentices with each session. Likewise, the JATC continues to update its state-of-the-art training center, always striving for an educated, competitive, and safe workforce.
