IUJAT Presidentís Message

8/4/2010

ATTENTION ALL IUJAT MEMBERS:

PLEASE INFORM US OF ANY IUJAT MEMBERS OR IMMEDIATE RELATIVES OF IUJAT MEMBERS ON ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY IN IRAQ OR AFGHANISTAN.  IUJAT WILL PROVIDE VITAL PROTECTIVE GEAR TO OUR FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE MILITARY!

I am pleased to report that the IUJAT has renewed its program to provide our members and their relatives in the military with protective eyewear. This popular initiative has helped many members of the IUJATís extended union family perform their duties safely. In recent weeks, we have already provided these goggles to several young men and women in various branches of the military. I urge you to contact us if you have a loved one on active military duty so that he or she can receive this vital gear as well.

Please inform the IUJAT at 203-205-0101 if you or another IUJAT member in your shop has an immediate family member serving in the United States Armed Forces in Iraq or Afghanistan. The IUJAT will provide protective goggles to our members and their immediate relatives who are on active duty serving our country. The military is not currently providing the troops with eye wear that is impact resistant and can protect the wearer from serious eye injury. The current goggles that the military provides to the troops protect from wind and sand, not shrapnel. The high-impact polycarbonate ESS Interchangeable Component Eyeshields will be provided at no charge to all the members of the IUJAT family in active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. Please help us identify the relatives of our IUJAT members who are in need of this vital piece of gear.

The ESS Interchangeable Component Eyeshield (ICE) is a complete yet lightweight eye protection system that offers a unique combination of high-ballistic impact resistance, unrestricted field of view, and interchangeable lenses for effective eye protection in any light condition.

In solidarity,

Steven R. Elliott, Sr.
International President

We are beginning a new regular news feature - we will open the IUJAT archives and include an item from our unionís early history in each newsletter.  As you know, the IUJAT evolved from the original horseshoers union which was established in 1874.  I think an excerpt from the original International Union of Journeymen Horseshoersí (IUJH) Monthly Magazine is the perfect first installment of our new historical feature.  The Preamble of the IUJHís first Constitution appears below.  I hope you enjoy this peek into your unionís history.
