Annual Shop Stewards Educational Weekend a Success!
This past June, the USWU held its annual Shop Steward Educational Weekend and Benefit Fair. USWU once again took the opportunity to show our appreciation of our union shop stewards, without whom we could not have earned the reputation for excellent representation we have enjoyed since our inception.
In return, our stewards have also taken the time to show their appreciation of—and solidarity with—their fellow union members by taking full advantage of the educational resources offered by USWU over the course of the weekend.
USWU Business Agents conducted a series of educational seminars on topics such as “Basic Training for Stewards” which included instructions for grievance filing, enforcing contracts, and effective communication between workers and management.
Seminars included training for stewards, information about health plans, and updates on the USWU Welfare and Security Funds.
By participating in a number of seminars, courses and conferences, and through networking with other stewards, and USWU’s business agents and staff, stewards gained valuable knowledge and practical skills which will enable us all to work even better together in our efforts to represent and defend the interests of our members.
